Sexual harassment of students in the hotel and restaurant industry

A report from the Department for Human Rights (Institut For Menneske Rettigheder) on studying the extent and handling of sexual harassment against students in internships during vocational training - from the students perspective

Excerpt: The Department of Human Rights examines the challenges students in the hotel and restaurant industry experience in relation to sexual harassment in their apprenticeship.

Main Conclusions Every fifth student experiences being subjected to sexual harassment in their internship. The female students are particularly vulnerable.

In the vast majority of cases, the harassment is perpetrated by a male colleague. The students have little preconditions for reacting to sexual harassment because they lack knowledge about their rights and rules in the area during the internship. Many also lack knowledge about what sexual harassment is and that this type of behavior is not legal.
